Everyone at War - Archpriest Oleg (Stenyaev)

They brought wool socks to the soldiers, and letters from children from the Radonezh gymnasium were put in them: "I'm Katya, I'm 8 years old" or "I'm Misha, I'm 12 years old, I'm writing to you soldiers, I don't know you, but I'll pray for you!" And when experienced soldiers took those letters out and read them, tears ran down my cheeks. And one said: "This letter will remain in my heart. It's warmer than body armor."
Once I announced to the soldiers what time baptism will be tomorrow. In the morning I saw that they came to me in two, in pairs. I was surprised. And they explained to me: "So the godfather should be."
That is each non-baptized person chose a godfather from among baptized soldiers and somehow I didn't think of proposing to become related like this, to bond with the army fraternity.
In parting, I said to the guys: "Return as citizens, and some of you will scatter in all sects."
And they said: "No if sectarians come to us, we'll say: "We didn't see you in Chechnya, but the Orthodox father came."
