Short Story of Elder Ephraim
Fr. Savvas from Mt. Athos visited Elder Ephraim of St. Anthony's monastery about once a year. One time when he was there, they all gathered in the trapeza and a monk was reading out loud while the rest where eating. Many people started talking while the reading was going on. It became very noisy. So Fr. Savvas got up and went around to the people who were talking and told them to be quiet. A lady, Vassa thought to herself: "Fr. Savvas only comes once a year and he thinks he is the police around here." When the reading was over, they all went up to Elder Ephraim to receive a blessing. When Vassa came to Elder Ephraim he told her "Isn't he something that Fr. Savvas, only comes once a year and acts like the police."
