Orthodox Parables and Stories: Parable of God's gift

"I don't understand how people can use God's gifts for selfish ends or, even worse, use them for evil!" the indignant student said to the teacher. - For example, talented scientists invent weapons, artists paint naked girls, talented singers sing what is disgusting to God."

"And you yourself always use your God's gifts for the intended purpose?" t
he teacher asked.

"But the Lord did not reward me with any gift," answered the disciple. “If I had any of these gifts, I would have done much good."

"Ungrateful! Didn't the Lord give you the ability to see beauty, and instead of enjoying it, you look for dirt, ugliness and imperfections in people. You have the gift of speaking, but sometimes curses come from your lips instead of blessings. God gave you the gift of love and forgiveness, but how often do you close your heart instead, not letting love into it, get angry and offended?"

"You received the gift of doing good, but sometimes your actions bring pain and suffering to others. Therefore, before judging others, first learn to appreciate and correctly use those gifts that you yourself have," said the teacher.
