Experiences during the Divine Liturgy

The Precious Gifts for Holy Communion should be offered warm. In addition, when the priests and Christians receive Holy Communion, they should feel that they are partaking of Christ's Living Body and Blood.

According to the Gospels, shortly before the Unnailing, a soldier with his spear pierced our Christ's Sacred Side "and forthwith came there out blood and water" (Jn 19,34). Furthermore, although the Lord's most holy Body was already dead, nevertheless, from His pierced Side there was a flow of Blood and Water. According to the Fathers this means that, they (Blood and Water) were warm, in other words, living not dead (for if they were frozen, they would not flow). It was as if His holy Side at that moment was alive and life bearing. Indeed It was,for It was united in essence with the life bearing Divinity. Although the Lord's most undefiled Body was dead, yes His sacred Side from which "came there out blood and water" was life bearing.
In order to remember the Miracle of His life-giving Side, we pour very hot, boiling water; it must be hot. The water is so hot that the holy Cup receives its warmth.
