Romanian Fr. Daniil Tudor (December 24, 1896 – November 16, 1962)

Fr. Augustin gives us an important testimony of the holiness of what the Righteous Daniel the Confessor could be called:

One winter, Father Daniil was put in a cell called the white cell, or refrigeratorated cell. The temperature insidewas -30 º Celsius. It was a windowless cell, with feces and urine everywhere. There it was certain that he would die - they were practically sentenced to death because of the cold.

They had few clothes and were kept there with very, very little food.

And the elder was placed there with a doctor, a very good friend of his. After they both entered the cell by three guards, Father Daniel immediately raised his hands to the point of a cross, and with his face to all these dirty things, he said to the doctor: "Come after me!" The doctor back to back on the Elder made the sign of the Holy Cross. Then the elder said to him : "Doctor, we say nothing more than 'Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner."
"And the doctor said later that when Father Daniel began to pray, a dazzling light entered the cell and from that moment on he lost the meaning of time.
After a few days, when some guards entered the cell to pick him up, they discovered that he survived there for 8 days without water, without food, without sleep or anything to wear, at -30 ° Celsius.
When the torturers entered the cell and touched Father Daniil, he was warmer than when he was brought to the cell, and everything around him had froze."

Father Romanos Braga, who was also a member of the Burning Bush, said Father Daniil had died in a high-security prison building in Aiud after four years of torture and beatings. He was one of the few detainees to be chained throughout his sentence. He died on November 17, 1962, after four years of torture in Aiud.
