Everything is mysteriously symbolic with monastic tonsure: clothes, actions, words, chants.
For example, a nun is given a special candle when she is tonsured, which is a symbol of the fact that she who receives it should be a lamp of the gospel in a sinful world. A bend on a monastic candle means a turning point in her life: everything that is below this bend remains in the past, this must be forgotten. Now she is reborn and combined with the Lord Christ.
