Once a blind man came to Saint Eutykhios, Patriarch of Constantinople (+ 582). "How long have you gone blind?" The Patriarch asked him. “A year already,” the sick man replied. When asked how the illness happened, the blind man said the following: “I was suing a person and, in order to win the case, I sinned - I confirmed the claim with a false oath. I won the case, but soon after that I went blind. Pray for me, pleaser of God! " The saint took pity on the unfortunate man, made a prayer for him, and the Lord gave the blind man an insight. Let the present case of the oathbreaker be the whole saving lesson: human judgment can be deceived by oath and perjury, but God cannot be deceived, and God's judgment severely punishes those who call in vain the name of God.
