The prodigal son returns home because the memory of his father gives him the courage to return and the confession springs from his soul is brave and full:" Father, I have sinned in heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. "Make me one of your men."
He is doomed in front of his conscience, he can not forgive himself, but in forgiveness there is a mystery of humility that we must learn again and again we must learn to accept forgiveness with an act of faith in the love of our neighbor, in the victory of love and of life, to humble ourselves to receive the free gift of forgiveness when it is offered to us. And because the prodigal son opened his heart to his father, he is ready for forgiveness.
Therefore, the journey is from the depths of sin back to the Father's house.
