Gerontissa Makrina prayed for all people and especially for those she had met while living in the world
With much pain, she begged for the rest of the souls of those who had fallen asleep, who had not confessed, especially mortal sins.
One such case, for which she begged other people to pray for the rest of her soul, was Glykeria, an acquaintance of hers from her youth. Glykeria during the Occupation could not stand the hunger and in order to survive she started making concessions in her life, until she ended up in sin.
Gerontissa, with much sadness, wondered, in what condition is the soul of Glykeria, who had fallen asleep. One night, after intense prayer, she saw a river of fire and in the middle of it on a raft she saw Glykeria, who was shouting to the Gerontissa begging her for prayer and help:
"Help me, Gerontissa, I'm burning…".
This image of Hell and the desperate cries of Glykeria never left the Gerontissa's mind. Her prayer was made with a lot of soul pain and crushing for the rest of people, who left this world unacknowledged and unruly before God!
