His whole life was a struggle

St. Nectarios's entire life was a struggle. Even after he passed away, there was a struggle. When he was being taken to the church for burial laying in the coffin, he was at the stairs of the church but the church doors closed on him because he wasn't allowed to be placed in the church.
He immediatel had holy myrrh streaming from his body the same day he reposd, curing a paralytic. It was obvious that he was a saint. People knew that. They loved him. Many years later he was glorified as a saint in 1961. Even then there was a struggle. There was a struggle if he should be canonized as saint or not. This struggle occurred amongst the clergy and monks on Mt. Athos. There was a division of opinion. Three decision makers decided to fast and pray to see if they can get enlightened if he should be canonized as a saint. St. Nectarios appeared to all three of them. His message to all three of them was: "You are right, maybe I wasn't the greatest theologian. You are right, maybe I wasn't the greatest ascetic. But I was unjustly slandered and I forgave. And that is why I am a saint."
