Orthodox Parables and Stories: Go and tell the Abbot of the Lavra, why do they leave me in the grave for so long, among the waters? (Saint Sergius of Radonezh)

About thirty years had passed since the death of Saint Sergius of Radonezh (✞ September 25, 1392). Near the Lavra of the Holy Trinity lived a virtuous Christian, who revered Saint Sergius and often went to his tomb to pray.

One night, as he was sleeping, the Saint appeared to him in a dream and said to him: - Go and tell the Abbot of the Lavra, why do they leave me in the grave for so long, among the waters?

The man woke up scared but also happy. Early in the morning he went to the Monastery and told his dream to Abbot Nikon. He immediately convened a meeting of the Brotherhood. They decided to announce the holy Relic of the Saint. On the day of the Resurrection July 5/18 1422, many people gathered in the Lavra.

The Ruler of Svenigyrod, Yuri Dimitrievitch, also came, who loved the Saint as his father and showed great interest in the monastery. As soon as they opened the tomb, an exquisite fragrance poured all around! Surprised, everyone saw that not only had the Saint's body been kept incorruptible, but his clothing had also remained intact. With holy rejoicing they glorified God, who had given so much Grace to His faithful servant. Then they reverently placed the Holy Relic in a new reliquary.
