When is incense used? Can I use it at home?

- Incense is used in the Church during service, as well as in the service of the reposed, during the consecration of dwellings by the priest. You can use incense at home prayer. Burning it can be seen as a reminder to Orthodox Christians of the duty to serve God from a pure heart and with fervent faith in Him.

In antiquity in Russia it was a pious custom to cense their homes. Some believers revive this tradition. In this case, it is necessary to use not the censer, which is used by the clergy, but a hand censor (Katzia) with the handle. By going around the rooms in the house and making the sign of the cross with the censer, one can recite psalms 91 and 100as well as the prayer, "“Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered:..." (from the evening prayer rule).
