Christian Reflections on the Guardian Angel
for each day of the month (according to the 1890 edition)

These reflections are written for each day of one month only; but the pious reader may repeat their reading on the same dates of each month, throughout the year, and even throughout his life. Repeating them with attention, he, no doubt, will arouse new thoughts in his mind, which with each re-reading will more and more affirm in his heart a reverent feeling towards the Guardian Angel. To feed this holy feeling in pious hearts is the only purpose with which this work is published.

EIGHTH DAY
The enemy tempts you, the world seduces you with its temptations, passions do not give you peace. If you do not do what a weak-hearted warrior does, changing his duty, if you firmly decide not to surrender to captivity and fight, sacrificing life itself, be sure that all the forces of hell will not prevail against you. Resort under the protection of your Angel - and you will overcome everything. The power bestowed upon them by God, of such a quality that everything obeys him, everything submits. When the Lord determines the goal, he assigns the means to achieve it. When God sent the Angel to guide and protect you, He at the same time gave him the power to overcome all your enemies.

The king, sending the warrior to battle, equips him with military armor, hands him a sharp sword, and the warrior flies against his enemies; so the Angel of the Lord, clothed with the heavenly armor, with a flaming sword in his hands, comes to you and spreads his protective cover over you. At least the whole world has risen against you - what are you afraid of? Have you forgotten the solemn transition of the children of Israel between the waves of the Red Sea, their victory over enemies, their entrance to the promised land? The angel of the Lord presided over them.

Your Angel is no less powerful in heaven, interceding for you before the mercy of God. Protecting you from dangers and troubles, he at the same time faces the Lord and prays to Him for your needs. Heavenly Father will never refuse the Angel who pleads with Him.

Such is your protector, powerful by his personal valor, powerful by God-given to him, powerful by prayers sent by him to the Most High. Try to keep his love and patronage; under his cover you can rest safely. Thousands will fall on the right hand and go near you; but the arrows of death do not come near you, for the Guardian Angel has covered you with his shield. Unhappy, left by all! Do not be afraid of human persecution; an orphan, abandoned and forgotten in poverty, do not be discouraged in your grief. The Angel of God keeps you under his wing. Devote your pure hearts to God; Let living faith penetrate and fulfill the joy of your soul; contact the Guardian Angel and say:

O my holy angel, my benefactor and my protector! I resort to your mercy, keep me under your holy protection all the days of my life and at the very hour of death. I entrust to you my soul and my body, my hopes and my consolations, my sorrows, my life and the end of my life. Let your mind and your will be the law for my thoughts and actions, that I may fulfill the will of my Lord Jesus Christ, reigning with the Father and the Holy Spirit, and forever and ever. Amin.
