Nativity Fast

Nativity (St. Philip's) Fast begins Nov. 28/Nov. 15 to Jan. 6/Dec.24.

We fast before the Great Feast of the Nativity in order to prepare ourselves for the celebration of Our Lord’s birth. Sometimes the fast is called Philip's Fast, as it traditionally begins on the day following the Feast of St. Philip the Apostle (November 27/14).

May your guardian angel strengthen you during the fast!

St. John Chrysostom

The day of Christ's Nativity is the most important day among all the feasts, for it is shown to be the mother of all feasts. Without the Nativity of Christ there would be no Resurrection. - St. John Chrysostom

Isaiah 9:2

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder
And His name will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:2, Nativity fast reading)
