Christian Reflections on the Guardian Angel

These reflections are written for each day of one month only; but the pious reader may repeat their reading on the same dates of each month, throughout the year, and even throughout his life. Repeating them with attention, he, no doubt, will arouse new thoughts in his mind, which with each repeated reading will more and more affirm in his heart a reverent feeling towards the Guardian Angel. To feed this holy feeling in pious hearts is the only purpose with which this work is published.

NINTEEN DAY

If the Guardian Angel were to be presented in some sensual form, it would be possible to liken it to a burning flame; for this blessed Spirit burns with the flame of divine love. But alas! The angel of God guards us, and our heart is cold, does not feel his flaming love. If we loved, we would not sin and would honor for happiness to fulfill the holy law. He who loves does not linger on the way of the commandments of the Lord, but hurries forward. Are not our motives for loving God the way our Angel moves? Is God in relation to us less perfect, less worthy of love? What a misfortune! What a blasphemy against God! Did the Heavenly Father for His Angels betray His Son? For angels, did the Son of God suffer and die? The Lord loved us with great love; but he loved as he could love, with infinite, eternal love. He died to cleanse our sins; He is resurrected to renew our being; and our heart is cold and has no love for Him. Everything motivates us to love Him. Love is the supreme law for a reasonable being. Love embraces the sky and the earth. The Guardian Angel that is yours is an example before you; he wants your love to equal his love. The love of God showered you with innumerable blessings; it feeds you with the Body of Christ; God's grace is poured out without ceasing, as evidence of God's love for you. Let us surrender unto Him with all our heart and with all our thoughts. Eliminate the mad and criminal love for themselves. Let us kindle the divine fire in our hearts, combine our feelings with the hot prayer of our Guardian Angel. May his love quicken and burn us. Let us love God with a pure heart for Himself; love Him so that with diligence and precision to fulfill His most holy will; love Him alone; stop loving ourselves: let us love our neighbors only in God and for God; we will pray to the Guardian Angel:

Bless you, holy angel! Bless you, flaming love for the Most High!

Bless you, illuminated by the rays of divine light!

Bless you, ceaselessly glorifying the perfection of the Eternal!

I bless you contemplating the wounds of Christ with deep reverence!

I bless you, reverent before the majesty of the Virgin and Holy Mary!

I bless you, united in the flaming love with all the elect of God!

I bless you, showing your love to me!

I bless you, my only hope in God, my only solace in this vale of mourning and weeping. Breathe in my heart, my angel, at least a few sparks of the love with which you burn, and be blessed forever.
