Orthodox Parables and Stories: St. George and the fish

Once, before the feast of St. George the Wonderworker, on Mount Athos, the submissive Elder Eugene could not find fish and decided to leave this matter to St. George to take care of.

On the eve of the celebration, he heard sudden bells and whistles at the door. He goes out and sees a horse loaded with top quality fish, about seventy pounds. He glorified God and thanked the Saint, who had heard him. Then he took the horse and took care of it, giving it food and water, since it seemed to be coming from afar.

It was later learned that the horse belonged to a trader from Ierissos who had loaded two horses with fish to take them to the Zografou Monastery. But one of them changed direction and with the guidance of the saint the fish went to his Holy Monastery, which they so desperately needed.

The  merchant, after searching and asking around, finally learned where his animal was. He, too, understood this miracle, the providence of the Saint for the feast, and all glorified God.
