Orthodox Parables and Stories: Snakes on Thassos

Once Saint Ioannicus arrived in Thassos. The island was then full of poisonous snakes, causing much damage and death. The inhabitants of the island, as soon as they were informed of the arrival of the renowned ascetic, gathered from all parts of the island and tearfully begged him to rid them of the terrible scourge.
The Saint grieved them and prayed to the Lord to have mercy on them. Immediately the snakes came out of their nests and began to head towards the sea as a group. They fell into the water and did not appear again.
From the book: The Zoophilia of the Saints and the Zoophilia of the Animals.
