Orthodox Parables and Stories: Miracles of St. Porphyrios

St. Porphyrios could heal by touching the patient. One day, a doctor and his wife visited him. Having outlined to the elder their questions and having received an exhaustive answer to them, the couple began to say goodbye. Father Porphyrios with his usual fatherly smile on his face, took the hand of doctor’s wife, exactly in the place where she had severe pain. The elder did not know anything about this disease, which they had long tried to treat with the help of injections and strong anti-flammatory drugs. When father Porphyrios took her hand, the woman felt warmth passing through her whole body and she slightly sickened.
But this feeling immediately passed, and with it the pain itself in the hand. The woman with tears asked the elder: “Do you know about that, too, father?” From that day she threw out the medicine and no longer went to the doctors.

Father Porphyrios healed not only people, but also animals. One Sunday afternoon, in North Evia, where he was resting, the following incident occurred. One shepherd asked Father Porphyros to pray for her herd of goats, which suffered some kind of illness. The father agreed and stood in front of the goats, raising his hands to the sky and began to read various verses of psalms relating to animals. None of the goats budged. As soon as he finished the prayer and dropped his hands, a goat came out of the herd, went to the priest, kissed his hands and quietly stepped back.
