St. Basil the Great in his ninety-first rule, taken from the twenty-seventh chapter of his creation about the Holy Spirit, says: "Of the dogmas and instructions kept in the church, we have some in writing and some have received from the Apostolic tradition - in succession in secret. Both have the same power for piety, and no one, not even the least aware of the church regulations, will oppose it. For if we dare to reject unwritten customs as unimportant, we will certainly damage the Gospel in the most important thing, and we will leave the apostolic sermon empty."
