Orthodox Parables and Stories: The miracle of St. John the Russian on the Island of Evia
The real miracle in the presence of a large number of pilgrims happened in the church of St. John of Russia in the village of Prokopi on the island of Evia. The news of the event spread over the entire territory of the Balkan Peninsula in a short period of time.
Bowing to the relics of the Holy one of the women pilgrims, secretly wanted to take away the belt of St. John. According to her, in this way she wanted to cure a seriously ill close relative. Left unnoticed, the pilgrim left the temple with a group of people, putting the belt in her bag and went to the bus station, intending then to leave for Athens. Then a miracle happened! For some unknown reason, the bus could not move, without any visible technical breakdown.
Suddenly, the bells rang in the church (it was not possible to establish who had phoned them to ring). The shocked woman realized that in this way the Holy One calls her to think better.
She ran to the bus driver and said: "I urgently have to return to the temple what I took from there" and ran to the church.
Soon she again returned to the bus, which to the surprise of the passengers freely started.
