Chapel of St. Nilaos Karaskistos in Karathona Nafplio
It is a chapel located on the beach of Karathonas in the city of Nafplio, built in the wild beauty of the rocks.
It was probably built during the period of the First Venetian occupation in the region of Nafplio by a captain transporting wine from the Aegean island to Nafplio, which was then a major port and center of trade to Europe and the East.
The captain with his ship entering the harbor at night fell into severe weather, as that part was particularly affected by the winter weather, so the captain then decided to build a church in that place dedicated to the patron saint of sailors in order to save himself. .
And so it was, the ship was saved and the captain carried out his task and rebuilt the church, and with great difficulty due to its inaccessible area. He used wine instead of water to build the temple.
Since then the chapel has been standing tall in the breeze with winter waves and against natural phenomena.
