Orthodox Parables and Stories: Miracle of Baptism

This story happened on the eve of the Epiphany celebration in a distant city of Kazakhstan.

After a serious illness of a three-year-old girl , Dasha was in intensive care. She could no longer breathe independently after a three-day haemorrhage, so she was attached to an artificial respirator.

Of all the many relatives, only Aunt Lusov, who lived thousands of kilometers from her beloved nephew in the city of York, Siberia, was truly ecclesiastical. The news of  Dasha found Aunt Lusov at the end of the workday and from that moment the priceless time of earthly life appeared to accelerate.

At first she was overwhelmed by emotions, but Lusov, a strong woman by nature, decided to solve one of the most difficult tasks of her life. Therefore, the first thing she thought of calmly was to urgently baptize the child. But how to implement this plan, which is hundreds of miles from your favorite niece? Two childhood friends, with whom she had always kept in touch, contacted her old friend Sveta for help.

Without delay, Christ's sisters rushed to help in search of a priest who would urgently agree to perform the mystery. Fortunately, the Lord sent Father Constantine, a young bearded priest, to the sick girl. Now they were already coming to the intensive care unit, approaching the door to Dasha's room.

Father Constantine and Sveta saw at the door of the intensive care unit a completely exhausted mother, who was on the verge of insanity, and little Dasha. Dasha's mother recognized Sveta but did not react at all, but only spoke all the time in despair in horror, waiting for a "proposal". The head of the clinic in the room ran to meet the guests and cried out to the mother: "Don't let them baptize the child! Do not let the priest go to the child! She will be baptized and your child will die !!!" Suddenly, Sveta went head-to-head and, decisively through her teeth, she said, "Leave the priest to the girl! Let the child be baptized!" Sveta, whose father died in this intensive care unit without repentance and Holy Communion.

The seemingly increasing memories of this tragedy have given light and power to persist and achieve the goal. And the room manager said to her in frustration - "Do whatever you want ...". Without losing a single minute, Father Constantine rushed to the ill girl. Father Constantine, after fulfilling his priestly duty, returned, impressed by what he saw.

Two hours after the baptism, breathing suddenly returned to Dasha, to the surprise of the doctors, the girl was breathing on her own. But no one knew about it yet, the doctors were silent, God knows why. And in the morning, Dasha came out of the coma, woke up and immediately asked for a game and something to eat. It was a real miracle of baptism!

When Dad came to visit the Dasha at the hospital, she said: "Dad, you know, an uncle came to me with a beard and a large cross. And for some reason he put a small cross on me. And next were my two big angels with wings! "No one can understand how a three-year-old girl in a coma could see everything that happened to her!

All of this happened on the night of January 18-19, 2017.
