Abbot Mitrofan of the Karakallou Monastery on Mt. Athos is a very big admirer of St. Seraphim of Sarov. In 2001, he came to Russia to celebrate the feast of St. Seraphim on January 15. After that, in April 2002, he had a severe attack of appendicitis with unbearable pain. The doctors suggested an operation which he was very afraid of. With deep faith and fervent prayer for healing, he turned to Father Seraphim, anointed the sore spot with holy oil from the relics, and felt a sudden healing. Since then, he feels healthy, rejoices and thanks the Saint for the miracle. We can add to this that the temple where Fr. Mitrofan is, is the only temple on Mount Athos, where instead of the icon of St. John the Baptist is placed on the iconostasis according to Greek tradition, the icon of St. Seraphim of Sarov is in its place.
