Orthodox Parables and Stories: A Story and Lesson
A monk said the monastery had four large beautiful trees. It happened when the trees were still small, the monks built a high wall to protect them from storms, separating the trees, one was inside while three were outside the wall. There were many severe storms which shook the three trees outside the wall violently almost till they were bare, while the fourth tree was protected by the wall. Many years past, the trees grew bigger and the monks needed to expand the monastery. They tore down the wall and built a wall further away from the trees, bringing them back together again. Just days after, a severe storm came. Do you know what happened?
The storm uprooted the fourth tree that was protected by the wall. Do you know why?
Because the three trees that were exposed to many storms made them stronger and more resilient against the wind and had firmer roots in the ground The fourth tree did not get used to resisting the wind and fell with the first storm ...
Do you know why God allows us to experience storms?
To be stronger and more experienced and more able to resist the storms of the world ..
