Orthodox Parables and Stories: Until the Candles Burn Parable
Four candles were burning in the candlesticks on the table .... The room was so quiet that you could hear them talking to each other.
The first candle said: "I am calm, but people cannot keep me."
And her light went out.
The second responded:" I am faith, nobody needs me, people don’t want to hear about me." And also went out.
Grieving, the third candle spoke: "I am love, and people do not value me." And that candle went out.
A child entered the room and, frightened by the darkness, cried.
Then the fourth candle said: "Do not cry! While I burn, you can always light other candles. I am hope."
