The Last Days of St John of Kronstadt (Jan 2/Dec. 20)

He last performed the Divine Liturgy on December 10, 1908. Three years before he fell asleep, he suffered with painful, inflammatory inflammation of the system. His pains did not allow him to relax for only 15-20 minutes around the clock.
His doctors recommended abolishing fasting, but he, for his life, obeyed his blessed mother. He tried serving communion of the Mysteries, with great effort, of course.
He had an utterly weak voice, with excruciating pain and in the end amidst the cries of the faithful, he taught on a seat for the last time.
In his last days, where his mouth could hardly absorb a little water, the devotees transmitted drops of Holy Blood only, with great difficulty.
On the 18th of the month he said, "Thank God, we have two more days to do it all."
On December 19 he lost consciousness, but at night he awoke with fever. They served at midnight to give him communion. At 6 in the morning they read the last prayers.
He died in Kronstadt at 07:40 on the morning of  December 20, 1908.

In a note he wrote in the last year of his life, he quotes: “I have served You, Lord, with all my might. But I made many mistakes. The enemy fought me hard. Cover, with Your charity, all my sins, Lord. "
The viewing was in Kronstadt and then his body was moved in a procession to St. Petersburg, where, in the presence of the last martyrs of the clergy, a multitude of clergymen participated.

His funeral was imposing. It was followed by over 20,000 faithful. The Prime Minister of the Russian Church participated with many Bishops, 60 Priests and 20 Deacons.
