Orthodox Parables and Stories: The Three Coins

A devout Christian offered three workers a day's work in his home. When the workers finished their work, the Christian called them to reward them.

So he put before them three gold coins and three spiritual books, telling them to choose, either the gold coin or the book.

The two workers immediately took the gold coin, saying:

"We will buy wood for the winter with it.

The third worker took the book in front of him, saying: “I have my blind mother at home. I will read to her every night, something from this book."

The pious Christian smiled at him and said:

"Please open the book on the first page and read what is written. As soon as the worker opened the book, he was surprised to see three gold coins stuck on the first page !!! ".

And then Christian says to the three workers:

"So listen. Earthly goods are good, but eternal goods are even better. Know that whoever desires eternal goods will not be deprived of earthly things. For Christ said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and these shall be added unto you" (Matt. 3:33)
