Very often we consider ourselves righteous or saints, but at the same time, everyday sins do not seem terrible to us, entailing spiritual death and eternal condemnation. We reason like this: I did not kill anyone, and petty sins - who does not have them? Such reasoning is dangerous. After all, a mountain can consist of large stones, but it can also be of fine gravel and sand. There are no unimportant sins before God: every sin offends His majesty and removes us from God.
