FAVORITE ICON OF THE GREAT DUCHESS ELIZABETH FEDOROVNA.

This icon is a copy of the image on metal with the image of the Kazan Mother of God that was presented by Elizaveta Fedorovna to Abbot Seraphim (Kuznetsov) presumably in 1914 and blessed by her.
Shortly before his death, Father Seraphim sent the icon to his known niece of the Grand Duchess, Queen of Sweden, Louise Mountbatten, and she also instructed Prince Ludwig of Hesse and Rhine to transfer the icon to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene Equal to the Apostles in Darmstadt in 1960.

The image was deeply revered by the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna. A similar original icon, kept in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene Equal to the Apostles in Darmstadt, was made by an unknown master.
