From ancient times, springs are considered signs of God's mercy and blessing.
"Oh, lightly light and redly decorated Russian land! You marvel at many beauties, many lakes, you marvel at rivers and springs locally revered, steep mountains, high hills..." this is how one of the monuments of ancient Russian writing begins, dating from the 13th century.
