The Transfiguration of the Lord is one of the twelve feasts, that is, it is one of the twelve most important feasts of the Orthodox Church. On the day of the Transfiguration, the Savior gave His disciples the opportunity to see the Kingdom of God on earth. Three apostles: Peter, James and John saw the Divine uncreated light on Mount Tabor. They experienced it as ineffable joy and happiness. The holiday has been celebrated in Palestine since the fourth century, since the time when the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Empress Helen built a temple on Tabor in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
