Sunday of Orthodoxy

On the first Sunday of Lent (Feb. 25) we celebrate the Triumph of Orthodoxy (Sunday of Orthodoxy). On this day the Church commemorates the final ending of the Iconoclast controversy and definitive restoration of the holy icons by the Empress Theodora. Not only is the restoration of the icons celebrated but more generally, the victory of the true faith over all heresies and errors. It is a tradition in churches and monasteries that a procession is made with holy icons.
