The bread and the wine that are in the Sanctuary and are to be carried to the Holy Altar with the Great Entrance, are called Precious Gifts, as they are intended for the great Mystery, however they are not sanctified. That is to say, they have not yet been changed into the Body and Blood of Christ . This great Miracle will take place later on. According to St. Basil, they are "replicas of the Body and the Blood of Jesus Christ." (Experiences during the Divine Liturgy)
