Appearance of the Light-Painted image of the Most Holy Theotokos on Mount Athos in the Russian Saint Panteleimon Monastery (1903) commemorated Sept. 3/Aug. 21

We venerate thy Most Pure Image, Blessed One, asking for protection for us, Mother of God, for thou voluntarily expressed mercy to appear among the brethren in order to save those whom thou hast gathered from sorrow. Therefore, we appeal to thee with gratitude: "Thou fillest everyone with joy, Holy Virgin, who entrust themselves to thy protection."
