The Beheading of the Glorious Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist John (Sept. 11/Aug. 29)

From a theological point of view, this day is considered a festive day because on this day St. John the Baptist was glorified in the eyes of God as His saint, as one who suffered death for his devotion to God and God's law; at the same time, God was glorified through his spiritual struggle. There is a legend that, having descended into hell, the Forerunner of the Lord continued to preach about Christ there, thus preparing the inhabitants of hell for the upcoming meeting with Christ, which took place when the Lord, having died on the Cross, descended there in soul, defeated the devil, after which all those inhabitants who received the Gospel of Christ were brought out by Him from the abysses of hell and moved to the higher abodes.
