On Solovki, many man-made worship crosses, skillfully carved from wood, were once erected. In the dark years of persecution, they were all destroyed. And now, according to the Providence of God, a cross not made by hands was erected.
The monks say that no one has ever pruned this birch and consider its appearance a miracle. In the place where it grows (the island of Anzer in the Solovetsky archipelago) , in the twenties they buried monks who were shot by the Bolsheviks or died in hard labor. Crosses, of course, were not placed. And those that suddenly appeared on the graves were immediately demolished. It was then that nature itself put this cross here.
