It was German occupation. I saw the people, said Saint Elder Simon the Arvanite, skeletonized by hunger and I suffered a lot and did not want to eat. I was distressed, because we did not have the opportunity to offer them any consolation, meaning food. From the holy Metropolis they gave us a little food. So I tell the cook, sister Moschula, to fill two boilers in the galley with water and at the same time I give her two handfuls of chickpeas and another two handfuls of what is commonly called "groats", to throw in them, in order to cook them. But she, seeing the minimum of the cooking ingredients, only covered the bottom of the cauldrons with water.
- "Let's obey, I tell her, and put enough water." Carrying out this obedience, the miracle took place. As the food boiled, the need for new water arose, so that the cauldrons overflowed and, from the pouring broth, the fire went out.
Seeing this event, she glorified God and constantly repeated "remember me Lord". When they brought the food, one could see the plates filled not with broth, but with thick chickpeas. The Lord blessed the few food items for the preparation of the meal, so that they would increase and thus many people would be fed.
