Ivan Petrovich Antonov





One day, in the midst of the harvest, Semyon was in the field preparing dinner for himself and his father. It was Friday, the fasting day. But Semyon had forgotten all about it, and... he cooked pork! They dined, as usual, in peace and order. Half a year later Ivan Petrovich, as if by chance, mentioned: "Do you remember, my son, how you fed me with pork in the field? It was Friday." Semyon asked his father, surprised, why didn't he tell him about it at once? And Ivan Petrovich smiled softly in reply. "I, my son, didn't want to embarrass you then," he said.
Another time Semyon noticed that strangers were managing their field. "Look, they're stealing our sheaves!" - he said to his father. But Ivan Petrovich shook his head and replied, "Never mind, son, the Lord has harvested enough bread for us. And these people, therefore, have need".
This was how Semyon would remember his father - merciful, gentle, and loving - on Mount Athos, where he took the monastic veil with the name Silouan. He would become an ascetic and prayerful man, whom the Church would glorify in the rank of saints. Of his father, Ivan Petrovich Antonov, the Venerable Siluan of Athos would speak with love and reverence, and one day would say: "I am far from my fathe
