How to celebrate Christmas

 

Saint Gregory the Theologian is clear:

“Let us celebrate not with public festivities but in a divine way.

Do not decorate the entrances and streets but your soul.

Do not organize dances or go to feasts and drunkenness

which become the cause of many evils,

but take part in the heavenly feast

where angels dance and sing.

Do not satisfy your eyes and ears with sounds and sights

but run with the shepherds to see the miracle.

Do not fill your belly with excessive food

but taste the heavenly bread of thanksgiving.

Do not dress in luxurious clothes

and do not use dyes

which make natural beauty false

but the pure clothes of virtues.”
