During the Greek uprising in 1821, about 3,000 Turkish soldiers entered the Holy Mountain with the aim of robbing and killing monks. They broke into the Prodrom. In the cathedral, the Turks saw the image of John the Baptist, who gazed sternly at them. Instead of repentance, the wicked began to shoot at the icon with rifles, but the bullets, without causing harm to the icon, returned and hit the shooters. Those fled in horror.
