Nativity of St. John the Baptist
Nativity of St. John the Baptist, commemorated July 7,/ June 24
Great shrines are kept on Holy Mount Athos - part of the head and relics, the miraculous icons of St. John the Baptist.
Part of the head of St. John the Baptist and his blood are kept in the Great Lavra of St. Athanasius the Great.
In the Dionysiou Monastery (consecrated in honor of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist), the right hand of St. John the Baptist is kept. There is also a miraculous icon of St. John the Baptist in a gilded and silvered robe, which survived a fire in 1535. The icon is also called the "Ancient Forerunner". The image was presented by an Orthodox Christian in gratitude for the healing of his son. Dionysiou Monastery is also known for the iconostasis, which houses the icon of St. John the Baptist of the 17th century.
Also, the relics of John the Baptist are kept in the Pantokratoros monastery (Prodrom skete), Simonopetra and Hilandar monastery Mt. Athos
The relics and the miraculous icon of St. John the Baptist are kept in the St. Panteleimon Monastery. The miraculous image is the ancestral icon of the Callimakhs, who patronized the Panteleimon Monastery from the second half of the 19th century. For some time the icon was in Constantinople in the church of St. Paraskeva. In 1860, the temple burned down, but the icon survived, after which the Callimachs handed the icon over to the Panteleimon monastery.
