The meaning of the feast
Having created the first man, the Lord imprinted His image in his soul. This image in man is made up of love, mercy, purity, patience, humility – all that by which the Lord Jesus Christ Himself glorified Himself in the days of His earthly life. Clean we came out of the holy baptismal font. But by our sins and passions this image of God is continually darkened, covered with the dirt of our vicious life. And therefore, we must renew it in ourselves throughout our lives, freeing ourselves from impurity and vices and decorating our souls with virtues. And the event of the Transfiguration of the Lord reminds us of the duty of transfiguring our souls.
